Turrialba Volcano


This volcano, is part of the Central Mountain Range and it is located in Cartago province. It is the second higher volcano (3329), surpassed only for the Irazú (3432).

 

To go to Turrialba Volcano, you go to La Pastora town, approximately two hours from San José. From there, one can see Irazú Volcano. The walk (during which you can see Talamanca Mountain Range in the distance) it is about 7 kms (4.3 miles) until the peak. This walk can take around two and a half hours, but depending on the visitor's physical condition, he can need more o less time to complete the journey. It is necessary to have present that the important is to be able to enjoy the beautiful view that the highest part in this volcano offers and of the serenity that nature has in this Cartaginian corner.

 

Turrialba Volcano has three craters, the central (in which you can walk), the east and the west. The access to this last one is forbidden for visitors, because its path is very deteriorated.
