Tortuguero

Tortuguero´s canals, which are located in the Caribbean coast towards the north of Limón, represent our local version of the Amazonas river. When you go through them, you can appreciate the beauty of its vegetation, typical of the rainy tropical forest, vegetation that combines with the presence of a great diversity of animals, amongst them you can see monkeys, reptiles, multicolored birds and other species. It is with no doubt an experience that allows you to obtain a great relaxation level.

Also, their beach has a large importance for the green turtle; since it is their place for spawn between Julio and October, when it is possible to observe a big amount of reptiles of this species. There also arrive other species in other times of the year, as the Baula and The Tortoiseshell; but in a much smaller number due to the killing they have suffer for a long time.

By Climbing the Tortuguero´s hill (a low height old volcano, extinct for about three million years), it is possible to contemplate in the same moment, the channels and the Caribbean sea, without a doubt, a landscape of great beauty.

A small advice: is not recommended swim in the beach; the waves and the streams are very strong.
