Poás Volcano
















Poás Volcano, located in Alajuela province, 2704 meters over sealevel (8871 feet), it is one of the most visited tourist places in Costa Rica. Its vicinity to Alajuela and San José, the facility for arrive to its main crater, the fact that this crater is the Earth second biggest (1 Km. diameter) and its turquoise color lagoon, are the reasons of why "ticos" and foreigners like so much visiting the Poás Vulcano National Park, located in Central Volcanic Mountain Range.

Besides the main crater, exists another at 20 minutes walking: Botos Lagoon, that can be appreciated from a mirador near the edge.

To have better possibilities to see the main crater clear, it is advisable to go early in the morning.
When you are coming back, you can buy strawberries (cultivated in volcano’s sides), in some of the several improvised stalls that are on the road.

Just few kilometers from Poás, are places of great beauty and cultural interest, as La Paz Waterfalls, Bajos del Toro Waterfall, coffee plantations and craftsmen, as good as the famous Costa Rican typical carts in SarchÃ.
