Arenal Volcano

This colossus, whose cone is almost perfect, is in the Tilarán Mountain Range, almost in the limit between Alajuela and Guanacaste provinces. It is 1633 meters (5358 feet) over sea level.

When its first eruption happens 36 years ago, it finished its days as a hill, and become one of the most famous volcanoes in Costa Rica and one of the most important points of tourist interest in the country, thanks to the show that its frequent lava expulsions offer when descending for their hillsides; specially when you observe them at night.

Near the volcano, in La Fortuna de San Carlos, there are several places where the visitor can relax and take advantage of the medicinal properties of hot spring thermal waters, while he enjoys the beauty that the place’s vegetation offers and too the beautiful view to the Arenal Volcano.
